National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee

"We often hear people talk about what youth can achieve. This is great, but I don't think it's enough. I believe that we need to move out of an era where we talk about what youth can do and begin to talk about what we must do."

— James Liu, Canadian Red Cross
National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee

Youth across Canada are joining the Red Cross movement and inspiring others to get involved. Whether through volunteer work, training and educational opportunities or by organizing awareness and fundraising events, Canadian youth are taking on leadership roles and helping make a difference in their communities and around the world.

Canadian Red Cross Youth Engagement Strategy

In 2006, the Canadian Red Cross made a commitment to attract and engage youth. In order to ensure this goal was achieved, youth volunteers were asked to become leaders and guide the Red Cross by forming the National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee.

In 2007, Canadian Red Cross youth representatives from across the country met in St. John's, Newfoundland to discuss youth engagement. Following the event, where 57 participants shared their experiences as volunteers, learned new skills and brainstormed ideas for increasing youth engagement for the Red Cross, the Youth Engagement Strategy was developed.

The Strategy proposed activities to create a fun, inclusive and healthy environment that promotes, supports and encourages youth as global citizens and leaders in the Red Cross and their communities. Click here to read the Strategy.

What is the National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee?

The National Youth Engagement Advisory Committee, formerly known as the Youth Task Force, supports the Canadian Red Cross to implement its Youth Engagement Strategy. The committee is made up of youth and management representatives from across the country.
