Sean

A student with a big heart

Sean McCreary, a 15 year old student, was amazed by the generosity of Canadians after the devastating earthquake in Haiti. The large number of fundraising efforts taking place in the schools across his community in Calgary, Alberta, inspired Sean to do something to thank them. He put his passion for filmmaking to use and made a video for the many students who had donated to the Canadian Red Cross Haiti fund.

“It’s not as hard for them to raise money, kids are great at fundraising,” says Sean. “I thought it would be helpful to put something together to show them how their donation is making a difference.”

Sean made a short video of photographs compiled from the Canadian Red Cross website, all showing how Canadian donations were being used to provide earthquake survivors with urgently needed supplies, health care and water. This video is now being distributed in schools across the country; about 1,500 videos have been circulated in Western Canada and 500 in Eastern Canada.

Sean is currently attending Masters Academy and College and is very proud of his endeavour.
“I knew I had to do something to help and this DVD has been a great solution,” says Sean. “If I can assist the Red Cross in the future I would definitely do so.”
